Exercises And The Dore Method

Exercises And The Dore Method

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD is a term which described a disorder which has symptoms of hyperactivity, inattentiveness or even both. The Dore method is a program used to deal with a broad range of learning challenges and ADHD via exercises which target to stimulate and improve the functioning as well as the performance of the cerebellum. Wynford Dore says that the primary cause of the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms lies in the cerebellum.

About Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention, deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a prevalent disorder, which is mostly diagnosed in when someone is young. The disorder leads to the main symptoms of hyperactivity or inattentiveness or both. Children diagnosed with the disorder usually have challenges with self-regulating behaviors as well as impulse control. Attention, deficit hyperactivity disorder, has three subtypes:

  • Predominantly hyperactive and impulsive
  • Combined hyperactive-impulsive
  • Inattentive

Children who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are distracted very easily. They have a challenge in paying attention to basic instructions which are either given in school or at home, appear not to listen when being addressed, daydream and tend to become bored very quickly.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Treatment And Conventional Exercises

Attention, deficit hyperactivity disorder, is usually treated with a mixture of psychotherapy, medication, training, and education or even a combination of one or more of the above-mentioned treatment methods. Medicines used to treat ADHD are generally categorized as methylphenidates and amphetamines.

Also, psychotherapy which focuses on the development of social skills and behavior management is often recommended to assist children in accomplishing basic tasks, develop meaningful relationships with other children and learn how to manage their time. Psychotherapy also educates parents or caretakers about the methods of handling the behavior of their children.

A therapist can provide exercises on time management and behavior, like creating a timetable for playtime and homework and routine for sleeping among others. In the past few decades, there are other treatment modalities which have been developed, and they include the sensory-alignment therapy and the Dore method, which are based on different theories in regards to what causes ADHD.

About The Dore Treatment Method And Exercises

The Dore treatment method is somehow a debatable therapy for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other learning disorders. The theory says that delay in the cerebellum causes these disorders. The Dore method seems to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder via the performance of daily exercise, which can be done twice a day for 10 minutes.

Research has revealed that the exercises focus on the development of motor and cognitive skills and are thought to treat the delays in the cerebellum. The Dore treatment method is offered at different psychological centers as well as learning institutions in the US. The Dore treatment method is very expensive, which averages around $3,000.

Warning

The clinical studies which support the Dore treatment method are not independent. The studies were published in both the 2003 and 2007 edition of the Dyslexia journal and were published by the supporters of the Dore treatment method. However, the Dore treatment method should be used with a lot of caution as independent investigators have not assessed it.
